Frequently Asked Questions

Will fibre drop through the rollers?

We have installed Rollaweigh in various applications including pulled cotton waste. When fibre is delivered from the volumetric feed, the batt tends to remain cohesive and this stops fibres falling out. Remember, as fibre leaves one roller it is immediately picked up by the next, not individually, but as part of the overall mass of the fibre batt. Fibre to fibre cohesion takes care of that. Dust and debris can fall out, where required.

Rollaweigh sounds complex, do I need special training or engineers to calibrate?

Absolutely not. A simple routine calibrates both sections simultaneously. Simply follow the instructions given by the Rollaweigh's inbuilt screen.

Is it possible to measure weight variation side to side , my volumetric hopper does not deliver a level feed?

Technically yes, but the Rollaweigh is a longitudinal controller. Uneven cross-width density needs to be addressed within the chute itself.

I use different fibre types and change blends frequently, how quickly can I get onto weight?

A key virtue of the Rollaweigh is its ability to think in absolute production rate rather than as a comparator. The length of the Rollaweigh is designed to determine an accurate weight of fibre as it passes over the weigh zones. Different fibres may have different densities. The Rollaweigh automatically detects the change in density as change in weight, and will automatically compensate. This means there is minimum fibre wasted when changing from one fibre type to another.

How does it work?

Like most good ideas the principle is simple. All you have to do is enter the production rate you want to run at. The Rollaweigh measures the weight constantly, and controls the throughput speed to achieve the desired production rate. By continuously monitoring the weight, and correcting the speed, the Kg/Hour (Ibs/hr) remains constant.

An average fibre weight of the total weigh area is used to determine and maintain production rate.

The fibre weight of the short-term zone is then used to fine tune the feed to achieve accurate short term control.

Why should I buy a Rollaweigh, I can sell what I produce, I don't have weight problems?

Everyone has weight variation. The question is how much? And whether that's perceived as a problem. There are two types of problems, those that are created for you and those that are created for your customer. In the case of your customers, they probably don't mind product that contains a little too much fibre, but they won?t like under-weight product. (and neither will Trading Standard authorites!) It's common practice that product is manufactured a little on the "heavy" side; to ensure under-weights are not produced. Since product is not usually sold by weight but by area or roll length, this means you could be giving fibre away free. The savings can be considerable.

By having precise feed control that gives a consistent delivery, it is possible to operate at tighter quality tolerances.

Rollaweigh also gets product onto weight faster after changing blends, thus minimising downtime and increasing overall productivity.

The key virtue is not simply quality, but consistent quality. With due care and attention, anyone can achieve good results with basic mechanical equipment.

But Rollaweigh can do it consistently, time after time, shift after shift.

My equipment is old, why should I buy new equipment?

The majority of our production is retrofit business, that is, installing weight control systems on existing machines. Cards and feeders have not greatly changed through the ages. A Rollaweigh can transform your old machine and enable it to produce consistently high product quality.

I am buying a new line, can I fit a Rollaweigh?

Yes, we have worked with most machinery manufacturers, and customers often specify Rollaweigh even where the machine manufacture has their own product.

My configuration isn't normal, the machine has been modified over the years. How do I know if it is possible to fit a Rollaweigh to my machine?

You CAN fit a Rollaweigh to your machine.

We have not found a card we couldn't work with.

We'll take care of it.
